George Pate
George Pate was born and raised right here in Spartanburg. It was in this town that he
discovered a love for many things: drumming, video games, and reading just to name a few.
But perhaps the most exciting was his love for theatre, which he discovered by doing many
plays with the Spartanburg Youth Theatre. But George grew up and went off to college, rooming
with his best friend that he had met at the theatre, Chad Henderson. One day George and Chad
were sitting in their apartment talking about the good ol' days, when George had an idea. George
thought it would be great if he could reunite all the Youth Theatre kids who had gone off to college
when they came home during the summer for a show. After much discussion between George and Chad, it was
decided that it shouldn't be limited to Youth Theatre alum, but should include young actors across the
upstate. And thus Scot Free Productions was born.
George is an English major entering his third year at USC in Columbia. There he directs USC's premiere
improv troupe, Toast. George has been involved with the Spartanburg Youth Theatre since he was in the
Fifth grade and considers it the most valuable experience of his life. George also plays drums in the
Spartanburg based rock/ska band Captial R, formerly known as RUDY.
